I really enjoy the way this harp player's tracks sounds. Bass & Drum parts are so heavy, food for thoughts with such a mystic vibe. "Moving Finger" is from the Cadet 1970 "The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby" and "Cause I need it" (1969) from "Dorothy's Harp", and was sampled by Pete Rock.

SOUL OF ANGOLA

Based on traditional rythms and dances (Kazukuta, rebita, kabetula, semba), the urban angolan music of the late 60's / early 70's period were born from a strong desire to oppose a cultural resistance to the colonial portugese power. Music was actually the only way of soft protest. Artur Nunes, known as "the Spiritualist" because of his voice, was one of those freedom fighters; "Tia" became a standard of angolan music.

The man's influences are (sic): Thanksgiving Dinner 2002; falling asleep during band rehearsal in the auditorium; visiting the planetarium with a fever; East of Eden, Roberto Bolano, Benjamin Britten, Thom Satterlee, Richard Perkins, Steven Heller, Moses, the Morton Salt Girl.
